What is Reflexology?
The art of Reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China. It wasn't until around 1910 that it was introduced to the West as 'Zone Therapy' by Dr William Fitzgerald, an American Physician. Eunice Ingham, the 'Mother of Reflexology' developed the therapy further by mapping out the organs on the feet as she discovered that tension and congestion in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body. Reflexology has been further researched and developed since then and the methods now used are based on a combination of oriental medicine, acupuncture, zone therapy and stimulation of points corresponding to nerve endings.
Foot & Hand Reflexology
The techique used for this type of reflexology is applying controlled pressure to points and zones on the feet and/or hands in order to help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance.
Facial Reflexology
Facial Reflexology was developed by a Danish reflexologist. The techniques used are a combination of zone therapy, oriental medicine and the stimulation of neurological points. Working manually on these specific points and zones in the face produce a profound sense of relaxation whilst, at the same time, stimulating blood flow and the entire Central Nervous System. This therapy stimulates the body's self healing mechanism. An added benefit is the reduction in wrinkles due to the increased circulation to the facial tissue.
Face Therapy/Vinamassage
This therapy was developed by Prof Dr Bui Quoc Chau, a Vietnamese Doctor and Acupuncturist. Face Therapy/Vinamassage works on the same principles as Reflexology. Points in the face corresponding to organs and their functions are stimulated by applying pressure with either the tip of a finger or by using a point detector, a simple tool that allows a more precise treatment of the individual points. It is a non-invasive treatment and may show excellent results in acute conditions. Pain relief may be fast and effective and therapy sessions last for about 15 to 20 minutes.
